What is a BARCode?

What is a Barcode?

Financial Link® has the ability to generate barcode character fonts on WBA forms. The barcode is automatically added to the document as the document is printed. Barcodes contain transaction specific data in a readable barcode font to permit the automated indexing of a document when scanned for electronic filing with a document imaging system. Currently, Financial Link® Loans, Mortgage and Deposits provide barcode capability.

The following is an example of a barcode. This barcode contains: customer number 123456, loan number 001143, execution date 12/5/2005 and form id 458.

Features & Benefits

  • Automates indexing of your Financial Link® documents into your imaging system
  • Standard barcode generated contains the following data:
    • customer number (CIF)
    • loan/ deposit account number
    • transaction/execution date
    • document type/form number
  • Customization of barcode data and font size based upon imaging vendor specifications is available for a nominal fee. Examples of customization are adding or removing a field from the bar code and adjusting the format of a field contained in the bar code.
  • Document Type/Form Id may be predefined in one of three ways. The option selected will be determined by your imaging system's ability to read the barcode.
    • a series of alphanumeric characters that include the WBA form number
    • a series of numeric-only characters based upon the form's WBA stock number
    • customer defined

Barcode Implementation Process

Financial Institution returns the signed Barcode Order Request, providing imaging vendor and capture program utilized for scanning and imaging operations.

  • Financial Institution and FIPCO will complete testing and confirm acceptance of readability of barcode with imaging vendor based upon specification submission and test case submission.
  • If the document type/form id number is to be customized, the Financial Institution completes the Financial Link® Document Number list(s) to identify the Document Type Number to be associated in Financial Link® for each WBA document.
  • If you have custom documents in Financial Link® and would like barcodes to generate on the documents, identify these documents for FIPCO. Barcodes can be added to these documents on a case by case basis.
  • FIPCO will then integrate the document type numbers and the appropriate barcode specifications based upon imaging vendor and prepare a barcode release to activate the barcode.
  • Financial Institution installs the bar code release and performs transaction tests to verify barcodes are appearing on the documents.
  • Financial Institution representatives will then scan documentation with barcodes to confirm readability and acceptance in to the imaging system.
  • If new WBA forms are provided in a Financial Link® release, Financial Institution will contact FIPCO to request addition of barcode and confirm document type number to complete implementation.

Requirements and Specifications

  • Financial Link® 8.X or higher installed and functional in a network environment with Internet access.
  • Barcodes are based upon the AbriBarCode39W (Code 3 of 9) and printed in a 14 point font.
  • Barcode will print on the top or bottom of the form image.
  • One barcode will generate per document. If multiple page document, the bar code will appear only on page one.

It's simple. Once the barcode release is implemented, the barcode will appear on all documents requested.

Limitations

  • Custom forms are not part of the core document set for barcode provision. Upon request, they can be added.
  • Based upon imaging vendor and capture systems, customization of the barcode may be required. Additional costs could be incurred if customization is required.
